The sun beat down on the glorious city of Edinburgh last week, bringing life to the spectacular array of rustic buildings and huge collection of medieval and classic architecture. Known as the ‘Athens of the north’, surrounded by rolling green hills and a glimmer of blue sea in the distance, you can see why Edinburgh attracts so many tourists every year. As delegates made the journey up to the Scottish capital, they were welcomed with a truly idyllic setting for the 98th Annual BAD Meeting.
The large yet compact Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) welcomed back BAD after a 16-year break. It made for a fantastic venue, centrally situated near the main shopping centre of Prince’s Street and surrounded by many excellent hotels within walking distance. Monday was spent setting up our newly designed stand ready for the week ahead. It felt good to be back amongst the best suppliers and delegates in the industry.
The scientific programme was of its usual high standard. Lectures included ‘Overdiagnosis in skin cancers’, ‘Reading the skin to recognise the pathophysiology of purpura, vasculitis, and microvascular occlusion’ and ‘Therapeutic checkmate in melanoma’. Keynote speakers from around the world, such as Dr Eleni Linos (San Francisco, USA) and Dr Wolfgang Weyers (Freiburg, Germany), came to impart their wisdom to fellow delegates across the 3 days.
Continued blissful weather seemed to evoke an upbeat atmosphere in the EICC on day 2. Having announced that we’d be launching the DermLite GL at BAD, we had many delegates approach the Schuco stand intrigued by its sleek, compact design (and even more compact price!).
We successfully rehomed a number of brand new DermLite DL4’s to delegates who had chosen to trade in their old Heine or Opticlar dermatoscopes. We are excited to find out how they find the transition to the high-spec design of the DermLite from the less capable devices they had previously been using.
There was also a lot of attention given to our display of aesthetics products on stand, such as our range of Princess Filler, Threads and UNIVERSKIN. As many dermatologists make the shift from medical into aesthetics, they often want to work with suppliers who are well respected within both industries. Since branching out into aesthetics, Schuco has gained the trust of many well-regarded aesthetics practitioners, supplying clinics up and down the country.
For us at Schuco, it was another successful, highly enjoyable 3-day event. We got the chance to catch up with familiar faces and meet interesting attendees from far and wide. Thank you to everyone who came to see us, and the British Association of Dermatologists for having us. We look forward to returning for the 99th event in 2019!
